N&W is pleased to announce the opening of a new materials testing laboratory.   The new laboratory is located at 10 Mars Street, Oberlin, PA to conveniently serve the Central Pennsylvania and Central Maryland regions.  It will complement the services of N&W’s existing AASHTO-accredited Soils and Rock Testing Laboratory located at 151 Reno Ave, New Cumberland, PA.   N&W’s materials testing laboratory is equipped and staffed to provide quality control testing of cast-in-place concrete, masonry grout and mortar.
The following test procedures are available:
ASTM C39 – Compressive Strength of Cylindrical Concrete Specimens
ASTM C78 – Flexural Strength of Concrete (Using Simple Beam with Third-Point Loading)
ASTM C109 – Compressive Strength of Hydraulic Cement Mortars
ASTM C138 – Unit Weight, Yield, and Air Content (Gravimetric) of Concrete
ASTM C143 – Slump of Hydraulic Cement Concrete
ASTM C172 – Sampling of Freshly Mixed Concrete
ASTM C173 – Air Content of Freshly Mixed Concrete by the Volumetric Method
ASTM C231 – Air Content of Freshly Mixed Concrete by Volumetric Method
ASTM C293 – Flexural Strength of Concrete Using Simple Beam with Center Point Loading
ASTM C805 – Rebound Number of Hardened Concrete
ASTM C1019 – Sampling and Testing of Grout Specimens
ASTM C1064 – Temperature of Freshly Mixed Hydraulic Cement Concrete
ASTM E1155 – Determination of FF Floor Flatness and FL Floor Levelness Numbers
ASTM F1869 – Measuring Moisture Vapor Emission Rate of Concrete Subfloor

The new laboratory will be managed by David C. Gassert, P.E., LEED AP.  Gassert has 32 years of experience in engineering including a full spectrum of field and laboratory experience.  His work experience has been applied to buildings, bridges, landfills, military facilities, railway transfer stations, water supply and sewage treatment systems, and many other facilities.
According to Paul J. Navarro, P.E., President & CEO of N&W, the new laboratory as well as the company’s recently opened office in  Allentown, PA will allow N&W to respond to increased demand in key market sectors in both Pennsylvania and Maryland, increase sales, and better position the company to respond to the needs of its clients. When fully operational, Navarro said that the new laboratory could result in the need to hire additional local staff.
