Deborah D. Foust, P.G., Vice President, attended the ACEC Delaware VIP reception and dinner with Jack Markell, Governor of Delaware. His remarks centered on the need to push through legislation for the proposed 10% gas tax for transportation funding, as well as passage of the water resources bill before the June 30th deadline. The gas tax, which has not been increased in 19 years, will provide much needed transportation infrastructure improvements and will allocate the need for 6500 more employees in the engineering arena, as well as 3500 more employee positions for water resources. Both bills will create additional engineering funding for statewide projects over the next 5 years totaling $100 million. According to Governor Markell, the General Assembly is currently considering the comprehensive infrastructure package that he proposed, and they need to hear from engineers up and down the State before it is too late. He stressed that this is the final stretch of trying to obtain some meaningful revenue enhancements for infrastructure improvements in Delaware.
