Moorhead Federal Building Sidewalk Replacement

Moorhead Federal Building Sidewalk Replacement

The William S. Moorhead Federal Building is located in the heart of downtown Pittsburgh, PA and has 23 stories that house numerous federal agencies. This project consisted of replacing the existing terrazzo sidewalks and installing K4 rated bollards as a result of increased security standards adopted following the 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, OK. These new GSA security measures required the installation of 70 bollards extending along Grant St. to the corner of Liberty Ave. The bollards are designed to withstand an impact equivalent to 15,000 lbs. at 30 mph and required significant foundations. The terrazzo sidewalks along Grant St. and Liberty Ave. were replaced to comply with the current City of Pittsburgh design standards. Due to the urban context of these heavily used streets and sidewalks all construction activities were limited to night construction.

The following services were provided for the project:

  • Survey.
  • Civil design.
  • As-built documents.
  • Landscape plans.
  • Limited construction administration.
