V&S Columbus Galvanizing, LLC built a new plant to increase their capacity and expand production. This 57,000 SF metal coating facility will process steel components for major highways, professional sports stadiums, bridges, architectural buildings, and railings. The plant was designed to handle large pieces of steel through the use of four 20-ton overhead cranes traversing the building over multiple deep dip tanks. The project also included a 19,000 SF, two -story office building to serve as the new corporate center for parent company Voigt & Schweitzer. The company specializes in hot dip and paint-over-galvanizing processes to produce corrosion resistant steel.
The following services were provided for the project:
- Structural design of concrete foundations including column footings resisting large wind uplift forces, multiple deep pits, mat foundation for the 1,600 kip heating kettle, abuse walls, and wall bases for full height masonry fire walls.
- Structural steel framing design for the office building and plant area mezzanines.
